Frequently asked questions
Does the timer play audio cues when the app is in the background?
WorkHIIT only actively runs in the foreground; this is to conserve battery and align with platform guidelines. When the app leaves the screen, cue sounds and vibrations stop. However, the clock keeps perfect time, and returning to the app jumps straight to where your workout actually is. To compensate, the screen stays awake while a workout is running, and you can turn on Completion Alerts to be notified the moment a workout finishes, even if the app is in the background.
Will cues play if my phone is on silent?
Yes. Cues are treated as media playback, so the silent switch on iPhone and Silent or Do Not Disturb modes on Android don't affect them. The loudness of the cues follows your media volume. To silence audio cues, use Mute Audio in Settings; cue vibrations keep firing, so a muted workout is still fully guided.
Does WorkHIIT interrupt my music or podcasts?
No. Whatever you are listening to keeps playing at full volume; WorkHIIT never pauses other audio or turns it down. Cues are short tones layered on top of your audio.
What happens if I get a call mid-workout?
Your workout keeps counting; a call never pauses or resets the timer. Cue sounds are automatically silenced while the phone is ringing or a call is active; vibrations continue, and sound returns on its own with the next cue after the call ends.
Can WorkHIIT alert me when a workout finishes?
Yes. When the app is in the foreground, workout completion plays one of three user-selected tones. To receive alerts when the app is in the background or the screen is locked, you can turn on Completion Alerts in Settings. This setting is off by default, and it is the only notification the app ever sends: a single alert at the moment your workout completes. On iPhone this needs notification permission; on Android it needs notification permission plus "Alarms & reminders" access. On both platforms, the app points out anything that's missing when you turn the setting on.
What's free, and what does the unlock buy?
All of the app's core functionality is free: all five modes, saved timers, audio and vibration cues, both visual themes, Display Mode, and notifications. The single one-time purchase, not a subscription, unlocks the premium clock color collections: 9 of the 26 color pairs are free, and the other 17 come with the unlock. The purchase supports Family Sharing on iOS, and Restore Purchases brings it back on any device signed into the same store account.
Does WorkHIIT keep a workout history or sync between devices?
No. WorkHIIT is simply a timer, not a tracker: it doesn't record completed workouts, and there are no accounts or cloud sync. Saved timers and settings live locally on your device; your phone's normal backup can carry them to a new one, and your color unlock follows your App Store or Google Play account. There is no Apple Watch app or Apple Health integration.
What accessibility features does WorkHIIT support?
WorkHIIT is built for screen readers: VoiceOver and TalkBack read the clock as spoken time rather than digit by digit, and every control is labeled. Larger system text sizes are respected across the interface, and the clock digits auto-size to fill the display. Every cue is paired with a distinct vibration, so workouts are fully followable without sound, and the system Reduce Motion (iOS) or Remove animations (Android) setting turns off the workout-completion flash.
Does WorkHIIT collect any data about me?
No. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. Everything you create stays on your device.
What do I need to run WorkHIIT?
On Apple devices, WorkHIIT requires an iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later. On Android, it requires Android 12 or later.
